Dental Implants: Months to Hours

Dental inplants are lifelike replacements for missing teeth. They have revolutionized tooth replacement, and are available at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry in Birmingham.

The term “dental implant” actually refers to the titanium post that is placed in the patient’s jawbone, where they replace a missing tooth root. The post fuses with the bone, and becomes a support for the replacement.

One dental implant can support one artificial tooth. Several can support a dental bridge, and four or more can support a dental arch.

Months to Hours

Historically, dental implants have been done in stages and take months to complete. In an initial assessment we review your overall health, and your dental health. It’s essential that there is enough healthy jaw bone to support the implant.

Once the implant has been placed the site must heal. This usually takes a few months. During that time the titanium post actually fuses with the jaw bone. Titanium is very well-suited for this, and cases of rejection are rare.

After the post has fused, you’re ready for a support piece called an abutment, followed by the artificial tooth, or crown.

Advances in dental implants have dramatically sped up the process, and at Koch Aesthetic Dentistry in Birmingham we offer the very latest: teeth in an hour. That’s quite a difference! To find out whether you’re a good candidate, please call our office to schedule an appointment.
